DICE (Darjeeling Institute of Computer Excellence)
Darjeeling Institute of Computer Excellence (DICE) has been identified as the premier provider to enhance computer skills among older students, crucial for their future career prospects given their current low proficiency levels. Located at KBM, the training sessions will consist of three one-hour sessions per week over a three-month period, with two students per computer, allowing for comprehensive training of up to 22 students simultaneously. Initially targeting FCI students, the program will expand to include year 11 or 12 students from KBM. Basic computer training includes proficiency in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Monthly progress tests will track students’ development, culminating in a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
English lessons at the Children’s Home
Ms. Nenyka Agarval’s English classes at Darjeeling Children’s Trust (DCT) address a critical need for enhanced language proficiency among our students, whose first language is Nepali and attend Nepali medium schools. Mr. Dewakar Sharma’s mathematics classes at Darjeeling Children’s Trust (DCT) play a crucial role in enhancing the mathematical skills of our children. Recognising the importance of mathematics as a fundamental academic discipline, Mr. Sharma conducts dedicated sessions at the children’s home, providing tailored instruction that complements their school curriculum. These classes are designed to strengthen their understanding of mathematical concepts, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking abilities. With a focus on engaging activities and personalized guidance, Mr. Sharma ensures that each student receives the support needed to excel in this foundational subject.
Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI)
Our collaboration with The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), offers a fifteen-day adventure course tailored primarily for our children, with special provisions for adults in select programs. Participants engage in exhilarating outdoor activities including trekking, camping, rock crafting, and water sports. A highlight of the course is a trek to Sandakphu, Darjeeling’s highest point at 3,636 meters, fostering qualities of camaraderie, discipline, selflessness, and environmental stewardship among its participants.
HMI was established on November 4, 1954, by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, holds a special place in the history of mountaineering. Founded to honour the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, HMI is revered as the Mecca of Indian Mountaineering.
