Happy Christmas

Christmas Greetings December 2019

Dear Friends and Supporters

The past six months have been full of good news and cheer for DCT supporters with the opening of the first two dormitories for the girls at the Children’s Home. It is a huge step forward. Whilst there is still much to do with another dormitory to house a further 20 girls, a new kitchen and staff bedrooms to construct, all 31 girls who used to live in the old dark hostel have now moved. The site of their new accommodation can be seen in this photo taken from a drone mounted camera – the new grey building will eventually be painted yellow, the colour of peace, like the boys’ accommodation.

The bedrooms are full of light and colour. The new beds have bright new bedding and the curtains are a lovely colourful orange. The new cupboards are shared one between two and many of the girls are starting to proudly make them their own by adding stickers. There is plenty of space to run around and just to sit in the sun or hang out with their friends.

Whilst there is much other news to share, I wanted to tell you how much joy you have brought to the girls at the Home by your support, their lives have been irrevocably changed for the better – so thank you and I hope this news counts as a good Christmas present!

I will share more news and photos in our longer newsletter in the new year but in the meantime, a huge thank you to you all for your support. On behalf of all DCT trustees I would like to wish you a very happy Christmas and festive season and a peaceful and happy new year.

Warmest best wishes,

Marilyn Adams,
Chairperson, Darjeeling Children’s Trust
